UP president Emerlinda Roman has proposed a 200-300% tuition increase next year citing the shrinking government subsidy and UP’s failure to upgrade its socialized tuition program.
The proposal would bring the cost of a UP education up from an average of P6,000 per semester to about P18,000.
The proposal has met resistance from the students.
