UP Student Org Wins in the Int’l Arena

This might be old news for some, but for those who didn’t catch this earlier, please read on.

The Association for Computing Machinery - UP Student Chapter (UP ACM), the student org that made the news last year by winning big in the ACM International Student Chapter Excellence Awards, has again given pride to the nation and the University.

Last July, ACM International announced that the organization won the 2005-2006 Excellence Award for Outstanding Community Service, the same category it won last year. UP ACM, an organization based in the UPD Department of Computer Science, won $500 and the distinction of being the only Asian winner (see the list of winners).

Last year, UP ACM made waves by winning two out of the five Chapter Excellence Awards in their very first attempt. They were the only non-North American chapter to win.

*UP ACM’s triumph was first announced in Crimson Crux, by former UP ACM officer and UP DCS graduate, Phillip Kimpo Jr.
